Get Set-Up

In preparation for your transition to zero emissions, it’s important to know your starting point. Getting set up by calculating your current carbon emissions along with registering for external support will give you a great head start on your path to net zero.

Calculating Your Emissions

We know the destination is zero emissions and to get there we need to know your starting point. Use one of these simple carbon footprint calculators to find out what your current emissions are so that you can start the pathway to zero emissions. To calculate your emissions, have your electricity bills, vehicle information, travel information and water and waste bills ready.

Further Details on EcoBiz

EcoBiz is a free program funded by the Queensland Government and run by the Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ) that helps Queensland businesses audit their resource use and reduce costs from waste, water, and energy bills.

After a free two-hour coaching session with a sustainability expert, businesses receive a written report with practical and tangible solutions, which are often no or low cost to implement. Every year, ecoBiz specialists analyse how participating businesses have progressed. Those that improve their resource efficiency by 10% or more become Star Partners.

CCIQ has been running this program in Queensland for more than 8 years. Around 400 Queensland businesses are participating right now, from small cafes, sporting clubs and offices through to large manufacturing and processing facilities.

EcoBiz has engaged with more than 150 businesses in Far North Queensland since 2018.

Businesses are given the option to add a free waste assessment to their coaching session. During the waste assessment, the ecoBiz Sustainability Coach will:

1. Identify all waste generation points

2. Classify waste materials regularly found

3. Identify opportunities for reduction of specific waste types

4. Recommend ways to improve diversion from landfill

5. Reduce waste going to landfill and therefore the amount of waste levy paid

EcoBiz Star Partner Status

Achieving ecoBiz Star Partner status is a formal recognition of businesses’ efforts and results to be more efficient with energy, water and/or waste. Businesses are assessed every 12 months and the Star Partner status is valid for one year. After achieving the Star Partner status, businesses receive a certificate and a logo they can use to share their result with their stakeholders to substantiate their sustainability commitments.

Business participating in the ecoBiz program are eligible for a 10% ERA fee reduction, when at least 10% reduction is attained in either energy, water or waste.

However, all three must be monitored to be eligible for the reduction.

ecoBiz have published ecoBiz industry insights guides to reducing energy, water and waste:
